Chocolate Shadow Cake Recipe

1. Sifted cake flour (2c)
2. baking powder (1/2tsp)
3. baking soda (1tsp)
4. unsweetened cocoa (2/3c)
5. sugar (1 3/4c)
6. butter or margarine, softened (3/4c)
7. vanilla extract (1tsp)
8. eggs (3 large)
9. buttermilk (1c+2tbsp)
10. salt (3/4tsp)
11. Fluffy White Frosting (below)
12. Chocolate Shadow (below)
Method of preparation:-
1. First heat the oven to 350 degrees F. Take cake pans, grease and flour them. Take a bowl, cream butter in it until it gets fluffy. Sieve flour; add baking powder, baking soda, cocoa, salt and sugar into the butter.
2. Then add 1 cup of buttermilk in it, mix it until the flour gets moistened. Beat the mixture for about 2 minutes with hand mixer at low speed.
3. Add rest of the 2 tablespoon of buttermilk, vanilla and egg in it and beat it for more 3 minutes. Now pour the mixture into the 2 buttered and floured round layer cake pans.
4. Place the pans in the oven and bake for about 35 to 40 minutes at 350 degrees F. When the cake gets ready then frost it with fluffy white frosting and then sprinkle chocolate shadow over it. Spread some of the chocolate mixture down the sides of the cake.
Fluffy White Frosting:-
1. Light corn syrup (2tsp)
2. water (1/3c)
3. salt (1/8tsp)
4. sugar (1 1/2c)
5. egg whites (2)
6. vanilla extract (1tsp)
Method of preparation
1. Take a double boiler; mix all the ingredients except vanilla in the top over boiling water.
2. Beat the mixture for about 7 minutes with electric mixer until the stiff peaks form and then beat 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract in it.
Chocolate Shadow:-
1. Shortening (2tsp)
2. semi-sweet baking chocolate (2 squares about 2 ounces)
Method of preparation
1. Melt the shortening and chocolate, keep it to cool slightly and then sprinkle it over frosted cake.
